Sargent Beach Stabilization - Construction Phase 1

Summary

Sargent Beach Stabilization Construction Phase 1 project will consist of preconstruction activities (100% completion-level design finalization, construction Contract Documents development, construction proposal solicitation and construction contract award) and construction of the stabilization measure components: an approximately 2,500 foot-long angled rock terminal groin to be situated at the west end of the Sargent Beach “West” area in Matagorda County, adjacent to Mitchell’s cut, extending seaward to a depth of 8 feet, and the construction of five nearshore rock segmented breakwaters, each 440 feet long and spaced 660 feet apart, to be situated north of the terminal groin and seaward of the beach at a depth of 4 feet. These stabilization measures will be to stabilize the Sargent “West” shoreline by interrupting the accelerated rate of longshore sediment transport due to the effect of Mitchell’s cut and dampening the erosional effect of wave action breaking along the shoreline, thereby mitigating against the accelerated effect of erosion on the greater Sargent Beach shoreline.
