Protection of the GIWW Shoreline at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge

Summary

The proposed restoration project directly enhances USFWS’s ongoing efforts towards the recovery of the endangered Whooping Cranes. The project supports the habitat protection and restoration goals outlined in the “International Recovery Plan for the Whooping Crane”.  The project also supports multiple actions within the federally- and state-approved “Coastal Bend Bays Plan, 2nd Edition,” including the following: (1) preserve functional, natural habitats of all major types (HLR 1.1) and (2) restore and enhance degraded habitats and create new habitats where feasible (HLR 1.2). This Plan was developed with input from a broad group of stakeholders from the Coastal Bend region.
