Lower Laguna Madre Hydrodynamic Characterization

Summary

Cameron County, in partnership with Research Applied Technology Education Services, Inc. (RATES), will 1) expand the River and Estuary Observation Network-Rio Grande Valley’s network of Real-Time-Hydrologic-Systems (RTHS) stations with six (6) additional stations to continuously measure tidal stage height, meteorological parameters, water velocity profiles, and water quality; and 2) conduct quarterly vessel-supported surveys (i.e., acoustic dopler current profiler (ADCP) surveys and spatially distributed vertical CTD casts) to determine the presence and distribution of density gradients. The data will be used to characterize LLM 3-dimensional circulation patterns to better understand fate and transport of non-point source pollution in the area.
