Land Protection for Whooping Crane

Summary

The purpose of this project is to protect lands that provide additional habitat protection for wintering Whooping Cranes and other important wildlife species in the Coastal Bend area. The Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program (CBBEP) will acquire approximately 900 acres of Whooping Crane habitat through fee title acquisition. CBBEP has identified two tracts for purchase, the Blaschke tract, a 359-acre tract of land in Refugio County, and the Ermis Ranch, a 1,609-acre tract in Refugio County. CBBEP will conduct due diligence and purchase acreage within the tracts directly from the landowner.
