East Bay GIWW Shoreline Protection and Marsh Restoration

Summary

Construction of the rock breakwater was completed by placing roughly one ton of rock per three linear feet of breakwater, a flexible guideline that is adjusted depending upon varying site conditions. Gaps were left between adjacent, overlapping sections of breakwater to allow for tidal flow and ingress and egress of marine organisms. Reflective daybeacons were installed waterward of the rock breakwater along the GIWW segment of the project area to alert passing ships, barges, and other watercraft of its location.
