Texas Coastal Ocean Observation Network

Summary

The Texas Coastal Ocean Observation Network (TCOON) is a state-of-the-art electronic water monitoring system that provides state and federal coastal managers and the general public with real-time data on tides and environmental parameters along the Texas coast from Sabine Pass to Port Isabel. The Conrad Blucher Institute (CBI) for Surveying and Science, a division of Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, will use CIAP funding to upgrade and modernize the electronic equipment at sixteen Texas Coastal Ocean Observation Network (TCOON) stations, expand and improve instrumentation deployment to meet documented national needs and standards, and to conduct a user survey of the TCOON website in order to improve the functionality of the website. Funding from CIAP will ensure the continued availability of critical scientific coastal water data, as well as real-time data to be utilized during storm impacts, for public safety, and for daily public use.
