Summary
Texas Cooperative Extension finalized an introductory booklet on urban growth issues. The object of the publication is to stress the importance of urban form and its impact both on environmental quality (consumption of open space and degraded runoff from widespread impervious surfaces) and quality of life (walkability, greater interactions and sense of community, etc.) The publication focuses on imperviousness and the utility of decreasing imperviousness on a watershed scale. On the environmental side, the publication stresses preservation of natural areas (open space) and the implementation of best management practices with an emphasis on low impact development.
