Texas State Veterans Cemetery Staffing Transition
The Veterans Land Board (VLB) has previously contracted with a vendor to conduct the day to day operations of our four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries. Under the direction of Commissioner Bush and our Cemetery Director Eric Brown, the Texas State Veterans Cemeteries have exponentially grown and continuously received additional grant funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Cmr. Bush announces winners for Adopt-A-Beach 2019 art contest
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the 23rd Annual Adopt-A-Beach "Treasures of the Texas Coast" Children's Art Contest winners. This year, over 3,900 students entered their artwork. The grand prize winner, selected from the 40 overall winners, was Grace Wimberley, a 5th grader at Saint Mary School in Orange, TX.“Adopt-A-Beach is more than simply volunteering to clean up the Texas coast. The Adopt-A-Beach program teaches young Texans the importance and impact of their actions and how they too can help care for Texas and its environment,” said Commissioner Bush. Read More
Gunter Middle School students and teachers work to conserve historic county map at the Texas General Land Office

Unaccompanied Veteran burial to be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery
Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for EN2 Bruce David Clements. Clements served in the United States Navy Branch from 1968 to 1971 and holds the rank, EN2. Clements has also been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Valor device, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal/Service ribbon. Bush announced that on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. SHARP, the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for SGT Andrew Cavazos Ybarra. Ybarra served in the United States Air Force from 1975 to 1979.Ybarra is not expected to have anyone attend his funeral. Cmr. George P. Bush announces Amendment 3 to State Action Plan is posted for public comment
Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush posted Amendment 3 to the $5.676 billion State Action Plan for Hurricane Harvey for a federally required 30-day public comment period. The amendment details how $652 million in additional funds, awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Amendment 2, will be allocated for programs administered by the Texas General Land Office (GLO), Harris County and the city of Houston."Hurricane Harvey devastated the homes and lives of thousands along the Texas Coast," said Commissioner Bush. On Friday, March 29th, theLamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Homewill host a Vietnam Veterans Day event at2:00 p.m. The community is invitedto join the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Home as we celebrate our Texas Veterans who honorably served in Vietnam. Veterans will be honored during our Welcome Home Pinning Ceremony. This year we will be pinning 19 new Vietnam Veterans and honoring over 50 Veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defense of our nation during the Vietnam war. Ussery Roan Texas State Veterans Home Medal of Honor Celebration
On Monday, March 25th, 2019 the Ussery Roan Texas State Veterans Home will be hosting an event to celebrate National Medal of Honor day. Ussery Roan is excited to host the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum as they bring Charles Roan's Congressional Medal of Honor to the facility. This is the first time Mr. Roan's Medal of Honor will have a presence in the State Veterans Home in which is named after him. Mr. Don Sherman and Mr. Kevin Black from the American Legion in Claude Texas, home of Charles Roan, will give a brief history lesson about Mr. Roan and how he earned his Medal of Honor. Read More
