Today Land Commissioner George P. Bush and the Texas General Land Office team members are working with federal, state and local partners monitoring the ongoing flooding situation throughout several parts of Texas, especially Rio Grande Valley, Coastal Bend, and Southeast Texas. GLO is actively working with local leaders, including Emergency Management Coordinators, to track the impacts of this new flooding on recipients of Harvey housing assistance.
"We're closely monitoring the flooding situation in the Rio Grande Valley and all along the Texas Coast," said Commissioner Bush. "We urge everyone to take caution and pay attention to local weather warnings. It could save your life."
A good portion of the Texas gulf coast is experiencing flooding this week. The GLO is encouraging Texans to monitor the latest road conditions and closures at http://DriveTexas.org. The Texas Department of Transportation is continuously monitoring roadways and closing routes when warranted. The GLO also advising Texans currently living in a FEMA Manufactured Housing Unit (MHU) to protect yourself, your family and your property. FEMA MHUs are designed to be safe and secure temporary housing solutions, but as with all forms of housing, are at risk for damage in severe weather. Please be advised:
- If severe weather is predicted, stay alert to weather warnings and comply with any evacuation orders.
- Never take shelter in an MHU during high winds or a flood.
- Always follow the guidance of local officials. It is their job to protect you, so it is your job to listen to their warnings and obey their orders.
- Plan out evacuation routes. Be sure to plan multiple routes to several safe shelters so that you are ready for potential road closures.
- If you need to evacuate your MHU, leave your FEMA unit in place.
If your MHU is damaged, contact the MHU maintenance team at 1-877-503-6053. For more information, visit https://go.usa.gov/xQutp.
