27th Annual “Treasures of the Texas Coast” Children’s Art Contest
AUSTIN—Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. kicked off the 27th Annual Treasures of the Texas Coast Children’s Art Contest, which is facilitated through the Texas General Land Office’s (GLO) Adopt-A-Beach Program. All Texas students, public, private, and homeschooled, in kindergarten through sixth grade are encouraged to send in their masterpieces. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and should depict why the Texas coast is important or special to the student. Read More
Four-Day Derelict Vessel Turn-In Event: Brazoria County
BRAZORIA COUNTY—Today, Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. announced that the Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), Brazoria County, and the Brazoria County Fire Fighters Association to provide the residents of Brazoria County with a free event to dispose of inoperable vessels. Volunteers Remove Over 150,000 Pounds of Trash from the Texas Coast
This past weekend, over 5,000 volunteers gathered at 26 sites along the Texas coastline to participate in the 2022 Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup. A total of 151,969 pounds of trash was removed from the Texas coast during the event, which took place on Saturday, September 17. Read More
Volunteers Remove Over 50,000 Pounds of Trash from Texas Coast
This past weekend, more than 4,000 volunteers gathered at 23 sites along the Texas coastline to participate in the 2022 Adopt-A-Beach Spring Cleanup. A total of 51,087 pounds of trash was removed from the Texas coast during the event which took place on Saturday, April 9. Read More

GLO AND USACE GRANT 30-DAY EXTENSION OF COASTAL TEXAS STUDY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have extended the public comment period for the Coastal Texas Study by an additional 30 days to allow public stakeholders and the local community more time to comment on the Draft Report. The Coastal Texas Study Draft Report was initially released on Oct. 30, 2020, and was open for a 45-day public review and comment period ending on Dec.14, 2020. UPCOMING VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM IN GALVESTON COUNTY
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with Galveston County and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) to offer community members the opportunity to remove inoperable and derelict vessels through the “Vessel Turn-In Program.”Designed to provide owners with a voluntary method of disposal, interested boat owners are encouraged to participate if the vessel is less than 26 feet long, with longer boats being accepted on a case by case basis. The vessel may be delivered to the drop off point upon approved for disposal. Read More
SECOND PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD FOR COASTAL TEXAS STUDY BEGINS TODAY
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will be hosting a second round of public meetings on the Coastal Texas Study to update the community regarding study changes and to hear community feedback on the Draft Proposal. Due to COVID-19, these meetings will be virtual. The revised Coastal Texas Study Draft Proposal is now available and is open for a 45-day public review and comment period beginning on October 30, 2020, and ending on December 14, 2020. TEXAS GENERAL LAND OFFICE REMOVES DERELICT VESSELS FROM TEXAS COAST
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) Oil Spill team began significant efforts to remove derelict vessels along our state's coast.Passed by the 86th Legislature in 2019, Senate Bill 500 allocated $2 million to the GLO Oil Spill Prevention and Response Program to remove vessels located within counties receiving a Disaster Declaration as a result of Hurricane Harvey.
