Volunteers are signing up now for the nation's biggest coastal cleanup on Saturday, September 15th. The 2018 Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup takes place at 30 sites coast-wide. Vessel Turn-In Program making waves in Nueces County
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD), Corpus Christi Code Enforcement and Solid Waste Services to offer local coastal Texans the opportunity to remove inoperable and derelict vessels through the Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP), free of charge. Designed to provide owners with a voluntary method of disposal, interested boat owners are encouraged to participate if the vessel is less than 26 feet long, with longer boats being accepted on a case by case basis. DALHR program announces important inspection deadline
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Land Commissioner George P. Bush and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced the upcoming completion of activities under FEMA's Direct Assistance for Limited Home Repair program, also known as DALHR. There is an inspection deadline for all those affected by Hurricane Harvey who may be eligible for DALHR. The last date to have inspection scheduled is Friday, April 20, 2018. Read More
Cmr. George P. Bush announces $1.74 million in coastal protection projects
Today Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the selection of 21 projects to be funded through the Texas Coastal Management Program (CMP) Cycle #23, awarding a total of approximately $1.74 million in federal funds to improve the management of the state's coastal resources and ensure its long-term ecological and economic productivity. Texas CMP focuses on five primary issues of concern to coastal communities: coastal hazards, wetland protection, water quantity and quality, dune protection, and shoreline access. Read More
U.S. Coast Guard and Texas GLO re-float large vessel damaged by Harvey
The fishing vessel "R&R" is floating once again after spending a month at the bottom of Conn Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass, Texas, after being damaged by Hurricane Harvey. The 65-foot, 94-ton shrimp boat was refloated on Oct. 6, 2017, after seven days of work overseen by the Coast Guard and the Texas General Land Office (GLO). Read More
5,000+ volunteers pick up 40+ tons of trash from 55 miles of Texas beaches
AUSTIN - The results for Saturday's 31st annual Fall Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup by the Texas General Land Office are in. Despite fewer cleanup sites than usual due to damage from Hurricane Harvey, 5,046 volunteers showed up at 13 locations to remove 80,528 pounds of trash from 55 miles of Texas coastline. "Over the past month we've seen Texans come together in the wake of Hurricane Harvey," said Commissioner George P. Bush. "I was proud to see that continue this past weekend with Texans from all across our great state helping clean the coast. Read More
Volunteers needed at 12 sites for Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup
Update: We have just learned that Brazoria County cleanups at Surfside Beach and Quintana Beach must cancel due to large debris that has washed down the Brazos River from Hurricane Harvey.
