COMMISSIONER BUSH VISITS TEXAS STATE TECHNICAL COLLEGE
ROSENBURG, TX – Yesterday, June 26, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush toured Texas State Technical College Fort Bend Campus. The tour included highlights from various program areas where the college trains students to perform skills needed for employment in today’s high tech global economy. The Alamo launches new tour ‘Weapons of the Alamo'
The Alamo is happy to announce the launch of a brand new, living historybased tour called, “Weapons of the Alamo.” This will be the first living history-based tour at the Alamo. The Weapons of the Alamo tour will teach visitors about the weapons wielded by Crockett, Esparza, and all the Alamo defenders. Led by an Alamo Living Historian, dressed in 19th century attire, this hour-long tour will unpack the mechanics, use, and importance of rifles, muskets and cannons during the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Vessel Turn-In program provided by the Texas General Land Office will be offered in Calhoun county on June 4th, 5th and 6th. “Vessels, if not disposed of properly, can be detrimental to our coast,” said Commissioner Bush. “Here at the Texas General Land Office, we work diligently to provide alternative ways for people to dispose of their vessels in an environmentally friendly way. THE ALAMO CELEBRATES PRESERVATION MONTH WITH THE PAST REVEALED
May is Preservation Month, and the Alamo is giving the public an inside look into the preservation work taking place on the iconic Church and Long Barrack with a new tour, The Past Revealed. Inspired by the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s #ThisPlaceMatters campaign, The Past Revealed reminds visitors why we remember the Alamo and why #ThisPlaceMatters. Recent visitors to the Alamo have noticed lifts and other equipment on-site near the walls of the Church and Long Barrack, as the preservation team conducts conservation work like IR scans and multi-spectral imaging. Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered in Matagorda, Texas. The total number of vessels turned in from both Matagorda and Sargent, Texas tallied 26 vessels for a total of 45 gallons of fuel/oil collected (which was recovered for proper disposal). Read More
TEXAS GENERAL LAND OFFICE ACQUIRES AND CONSERVES ATLAS OF MAPS MADE BY CAPTAIN ZEBULON M. PIKE
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Texas General Land Office Archives and Records, as part of the agency’s Save Texas History Program, acquired and conserved an important atlas of six printed maps created by U.S. Army Captain Zebulon M. Pike. Published in 1810, the atlas illustrates Pike’s troubled 1806-1807 exploration of the Louisiana Territory, which included the northern boundary of Spanish Texas. Captain Pike’s work greatly contributed to knowledge of the new territory acquired by the United States as well as parts of New Spain. Read More
CMR BUSH ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF THIRD ANNUAL CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the results of the Vessel Turn-In program offered in Corpus Christi. The total number of vessels turned in tallied 66 with approximately 80 gallons of waste oil on board (which was recovered for proper disposal). In addition, 31 boat trailers were turned in. CMR. BUSH ANNOUNCES RECEIPT OF FEDERAL GRANT FOR GULF STATE COASTAL PROJECTS
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Texas General Land Office has received $46,313,471.21 in federal grant funding from the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) to further support restoration of the Texas shoreline. "The revenue from GOMESA is crucial to enhancing and protecting the Gulf coast," said Commissioner Bush. " These funds will allow the GLO to fund coastal projects targeting the restoration of coastal damage from Hurricane’s Ike and Harvey and enhancing resiliency of the Texas shoreline to prevent future threats.
