TX GLO TO OPEN REGISTRATION FOR ANNUAL ADOPT-A-BEACH SPRING COASTWIDE CLEANUP
Today, the Texas General Land Office announced that registration for the Annual Adopt-A-Beach Spring Coastwide Cleanup will begin Friday, March 5, 2021. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for the cleanup scheduled to occur on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved $31,426,781 in flood mitigation projects in the first round of grant funding for the GLO’s $2.3 billion regional mitigation competitions. Hidalgo County will be granted $9,858,499 for phase one of the main floodwater channel expansion project and the city of Penitas will receive $4,075,137 for the Tom Gill Rd Flood Mitigation improvements project. Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) approved $8,583,167 in Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery funds for extensive infrastructure improvements relating to drainage, street, communication, and public facility systems in Hardin County. TX GLO EXTENDS 2021 “TREASURES OF THE TEXAS COAST” CHILDREN'S ART CONTEST
Today, Texas General Land Office announced the extension of the 2021 “Treasures of the Texas Coast Children's Art Contest.” Due to inclement weather and changes in postal service time, all Texas students (public, private, and home-schooled) in grades K-6 who wish to participate in this year’s contest, now have until March 10th to submit their work. Artwork should be based on the theme “Treasures of the Texas Coast” and portray why the Texas coast is important or noteworthy to the participating student. Read More
MORE THAN 8,900 POUNDS OF TRASH COLLECTED AT ADOPT-A-BEACH WINTER CLEANUP
Over 340 volunteers participated in the 2021 Annual Adopt-A-Beach Winter Cleanup that took place on February 5 and 6, 2021. Volunteers worked together to clean a total of 28.5 miles of beach and bay area. The two-day trash cleanup event resulted in over 8,900 pounds of trash being removed, leaving our Texas beaches clean and beautiful for wildlife and the community alike to enjoy. Sixty-three volunteers helped clean South Padre Island on Friday and collected 1,512 pounds of trash. Read More
Land Office Launches Texas Defense Task Force
Today, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the formation of the Texas Defense Task Force within the General Land Office with the mission to identify federal overreach and fend off threats to the Texas oil and gas economy.The move comes less than two weeks after Governor Abbott's order for state agencies to begin preparing to protect Texas' energy industry from the crippling effects of federal overreach seen in the first weeks of the Biden Administration. The Veterans Land Board unanimously approved three critical changes for Texas Veterans benefits. With home prices on the rise, the VLB unanimously authorized an increase to the maximum home loan amount the VLB can approve for Veterans seeking homeownership.
