Today, Texas Veterans Land Board Chairman George P. Bush announced that on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. SHARP, the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran burial for A1C Ronald Padget Benoto. Born on November 26, 1936, Mr. Benoto served in the United States Air Force from December 2, 1953 to October 3, 1957. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Bush was joined by Veterans from all over the nation to honor Medal of Honor recipient, Lance Corporal Richard Anderson. 50 years ago to the very day, “Tex,” as Anderson is endearingly called by friends and family, was killed from the impact of a grenade he covered to save the lives of fellow Marines in the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion in Vietnam. Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released mandatory rules for the use of more than $4.3 billion in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds for mitigation projects. These funds were appropriated by Congress on February 9, 2018, for mitigation projects in the areas affected by Hurricane Harvey as well as 2015 and 2016 Floods. Read More

Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is encouraging communities impacted by the 2016 flooding events to submit applications for $19 million in reallocated Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds. Applications for acquisition and/or demolition of real property along with flood and drainage improvements will be considered. Entities eligible to compete for project funds will be the five counties designated "most impacted" by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which are Brazoria, Fort Bend, Harris, Montgomery, and Newton counties.
