Advancing TXLA oil-spill forecast using Regional-Community Earth System Model with data assimilation

Summary

This project aims to significantly expand upon TGLO-funded modeling efforts to facilitate the improvement of oil-spill forecasting along the Texas-Louisiana shelf (TXLA) within the Gulf of Mexico (GoM). In order to improve the operational TGLO-TXLA model, TAMU will implement a new GoM-wide forecast system based on the Regional-Community Earth System Model (R-CESM), which is a fully coupled system capable of resolving important atmosphere-ocean-land interactions within the GoM to improve the accuracy and reliability of oil-spill forecasts.
