Andie Bowie & Isla Blanca Park Beach Nourishment Project with BUDM

Summary

Cameron County will continue the partnership with the Texas General Land Office and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to nourish the beach at Isla Blanca Park. The total area is approximately 4,858 linear feet. The beach at Andie Bowie and Isla Blanca Park has been eroding drastically during the last several years and with the recent events of Hurricane Harvey the beach has a experience a more severe erosion that is becoming a threat to the parks infastructure and facilities. The beach areas that we are requesting nourishment will enhance and protect the areas directly in front of the Lermas Pavilion, Lermas Pavilion parking lot, Sandpipers Pavilion parking lot, Sandpipers Beach Front Pavilion, and the beach in front of the Schlitterbahn Water Park. These areas are high traffic areas in the park and the facilities are in immediate threat due to shoreline migration and shoreline erosion from past high energy events and storms. The placement areas in the park are within 1 mile of the maintenance dredging and there will be little to no incremental cost to the Corps to place dredge material at the park.
