Assessment and Remediation of Pits in Mid-Coast - GLO

Summary

The Railroad Commission of Texas became aware of oilfield contamination at former earthen pits located in a rural area within the Nash Dome Oilfield. RRC staff identified widespread contamination associated with the oilfield pits, including tar mats, sludge, and oily asphaltic material. Analysis of the sludge material from the pits, revealed the presence of several heavy metals and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH). The scope of work included excavation and disposing contaminated soil and waste and backfilling the excavations. The RRC removed contaminated soil and pit materials. Confirmation samples were collected during and following remediation activities and the results verified the effectiveness of cleanup activities.
