Summary
The Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science (CBI), at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, will install oceanographic instrumentation to document near shore currents and the distribution of wave height, period, and direction averaged over a period of time for a particular location (wave climate). CBI will also develop and test a new method to give a description of the present conditions and forecast the conditions immediately expected. Currents including near shore currents are crucial to predict the motion of oil slicks, the location and timing of their impact on the coastline and in executing countermeasures. Near shore currents and wave measurements are presently not available anywhere along the Texas coast on a permanent basis.
