Summary
The addition of sand for this shoreline is a crucial component of stabilizing or at a minimum slowing the erosion rates in the area. The current footprint being proposed by USACE for nourishment is approximately 9,500 linear feet of beachfront. The City staff hopes to expand this footprint via enhanced BCR calculations. The costs for this project are offset greatly by the $10 million provided by the USACE Continuing Authorities Program. At this time, there are no regulatory or permitting issues anticipated as the placement of sand at Dellenara Park has paved the way for placement of sand on the public beach easement on the West End of Galveston Island.
