Hitchcock City Parks: Mitigating Non-Point Source Pollution with Green Infrastructure

Summary

Texas A&M University AgriLife Extension Service will install at least three on-the-ground green infrastructure installations and interpretive signs in Hitchcock City parks consistent with Clean Coast Texas.  Practices may include rain gardens, bioswales, rainwater harvesting, and vegetated buffers. Practices chosen by the project team based on natural drainage features, parks construction phasing, and additional considerations. One workshop and one field day during or after installation. The installations will reduce non-point-source pollution and hold stormwater on-site to improve water quality and enhance coastal habitats. The project will also hold one workshop and one field day during or after installation, which will include tips on applying these practices on residential and commercial properties. The project provides an opportunity to build technical capacity in a coastal zone community for overseeing more nature-based projects.
