Magnolia Beach Marsh Restoration

Summary

The purpose of this project is to conduct an ecosystem restoration feasibility study with the USACE under Section206 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1996 to examine the potential for restoration of a large complex of salt marshes in the Magnolia-Indianola area. All reasonable solutions to the water resource problems identified at the marshes will be evaluated.

The marsh area located along Magnolia Beach has rapidly degraded over the last few decades. This area is important to wildlife and dependent recreational pursuits such as bird watching at the Magic Ridge Sanctuary and fishing in the marshes and Matagorda Bay. The proposed project meets the criteria for inclusion within the Section206 program.

The USACE Galveston office will conduct this project and prepare/obtain all necessary permits. Estimated project costs were determined by the USACE in compliance with the Section 206 program and in accordance with the scope for required tasks to complete the feasibility report. Costs will focus on critical determinations and disciplines to determine existing conditions and formulation of potential solutions to meet marsh needs.
