McFaddin Willow Lake Restoration

Summary

Ducks Unlimited (DU) Inc. will install earthen terraces to decrease water turbidity and increase submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) in the Willow Lake complex area. The proposed project will construct earthen terraces (earthen levee/dikes) within the Willow Lake Blowout. Plant intertidal and high-marsh plants on the terraces to reduce wave-fetch generated erosion, increase fisheries production, increasing productivity potential of the SAV, provide potential bird nesting and increase shoreline to water transitional areas for fisheries. DU will be responsible for renewing the USACE Nationwide Permit 27, and ensuring that engineering, construction of terraces, and planting is completed. The USFWS will continue to be responsible for long-term biological monitoring of the area.
