SH 316 Shoreline Protection (Ocean Drive Living Shoreline)

Summary

Engineering design, permitting and construction of a project to stabilize approximately 3,700 feet of highly-eroding Matagorda Bay shoreline adjacent to a segment of State Highway 316 (Ocean Dr) in the Indianola community from just north of the intersection of State Highway 316 and North Ocean Drive extending southward to a point just south of the La Salle Texas Historical Monument.

The project is a long-term solution to protect a segment of State Highway 316 which serves as a main evacuation route for the Indianola community and will prevent the highway from being inundated or washed away due to the encroachment of erosion during high tide or rainfall-induced flooding events. In addition, the project will restore the critically-eroding bay shoreline within the project limits and protect important wetland habitat located along the southwest side of the highway that provides inland protection against storm surge.
