Shoreline and Wetland Protection at the Cohn Preserve

Summary

This project will focus on shoreline protection and stabilization needed to address the significant degradation of shorelines and coastal wetlands on the bay side of Mustang Island in Nueces County, at two locations, The Nature Conservancy’s Francine Cohn Preserve and at Mustang Island State Park. This alternatives analysis phase of the project will consist of data collection for initial design development for breakwaters, beneficial use of dredge material to restore lost shoreline and estuarine habitat, and stabilizing structures for inlet stability. The area to be protected consists of approximately 2,500 linear feet of exposed bay shoreline and 2 shoreline breaches to the back-bay systems which are each approximately 300 feet in width.
