South Padre Island Beach Nourishment with Beneficial Use of Dredge Material

Summary

Beach nourishment project beneficially using dredged material (BUDM) from the Brownsville Ship Channel. Initial project slated to support the state FY2020 BUDM maintenance event which was never awarded by the USACE; project supported the state FY2021 BUDM event, for which work took place between April 29, 2021 through July 14, 2021, in conjunction with BUDM placement at the adjacent Isla Blanca Park beach. A total of 315,000 Cubic Yards of material was placed on the City Beach (PA5) with 25,000 CY placed at the nearshore berm 2A/2B placement site. This project is also supporting present City of South Padre Island USACE permit regulatory updates and annual monitoring surveys.
