Cmr. George P. Bush announces VLB to receive VA grants for Veteran Cemeteries in Killeen and Mission

AUSTIN  - Today Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced that the Veterans Administration notified the General Land Office's (GLO) Veterans Land Board (VLB) that it will receive more than one million dollars in grant funding for the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen and the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. The Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen was awarded $790,126.88 for replacement of the entire irrigation system and the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission has been granted $235,840.00 for the replacement of failing columbarium cap stones.

"In Texas, honoring veterans is in our DNA," Commissioner Bush said. "From the days of the Republic to the present day, we provide vets with additional services and benefits above and beyond those provided in other states. The VLB also provides free burial of veterans with full military honors at Texas State Veterans Cemeteries in Abilene, Corpus Christi, Killeen and Mission. These two grants, totaling just over $1 million, will go a long way to ensuring that the VLB is able to maintain the respect and dignity our veterans deserve."

The Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB), a division of the Texas General Land Office, operates four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries, conveniently located across the state. These Texas State Veterans Cemeteries are hallowed grounds that are an expression of our respect for the Texas men and women who have served our nation with honor.
