World War II Veteran Requests 100 Cards for His 100th Birthday

Today,  Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D. called on the Big Spring community to show support for one of our courageous Veterans, World War II Veteran U.S. Army Corporal (CPL) Carl Reid, who turns 100 on June 15th. CPL Reid— a resident at the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home (TSVH) in Big Spring— has requested at least 100 birthday cards for this incredible milestone. CPL Reid served in the U.S. Army during World War II, entering into active duty on September 26, 1944. On Friday, June 9 at 11:00 a.m. sharp, the Texas State Veterans Cemetery At Abilene will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran Burial for U.S. Army Veteran Private First Class (PFC) Donald Lynn Barefield. Born on March 1, 1948, PFC Barefield served from November 1970 to March 1972. PFC Barefield received the Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.  PFC Barefield is not expected to have any next-of-kin attend his burial. On Friday, June 2nd at 2:00 p.m., the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery will conduct a World War II KIA/MIA Burial for U.S. Army Veteran Private (PVT) Myron Elton Williams. PVT Williams remains were recently discovered in Hurtgen, Germany where he was killed in action and remained for over 77 years.Born May 4, 1915, PVT Williams served our nation courageously in the Company L, 3rd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, in the European Theater during World War II for just over two years.
