HUD approves GLO state action plans for 2018 and 2019 disaster funding allocations

Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved two state action plans detailing the distribution and eligible uses of more than $285 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to assist in long-term recovery efforts following severe flooding in 2018 and 2019 in South Texas and the Lower Rio Grande Valley and Tropical Storm Imelda in Southeast Texas. UPCOMING VESSEL TURN-IN PROGRAM IN GALVESTON COUNTY

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with Galveston County and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) to offer community members the opportunity to remove inoperable and derelict vessels through the “Vessel Turn-In Program.”Designed to provide owners with a voluntary method of disposal, interested boat owners are encouraged to participate if the vessel is less than 26 feet long, with longer boats being accepted on a case by case basis. The vessel may be delivered to the drop off point upon approved for disposal. SECOND PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD FOR COASTAL TEXAS STUDY BEGINS TODAY

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will be hosting a second round of public meetings on the Coastal Texas Study to update the community regarding study changes and to hear community feedback on the Draft Proposal. Due to COVID-19, these meetings will be virtual. The revised Coastal Texas Study Draft Proposal is now available and is open for a 45-day public review and comment period beginning on October 30, 2020, and ending on December 14, 2020. TEXAS GENERAL LAND OFFICE REMOVES DERELICT VESSELS FROM TEXAS COAST

The Texas General Land Office (GLO) Oil Spill team began significant efforts to remove derelict vessels along our state's coast.Passed by the 86th Legislature in 2019, Senate Bill 500 allocated $2 million to the GLO Oil Spill Prevention and Response Program to remove vessels located within counties receiving a Disaster Declaration as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Today Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO) has completely rebuilt more than 2,000 homes for Texas families through the Homeowner Assistance Program. This achievement marks an important milestone in a program that is anticipated to rebuild more than 6,000 homes using more than $1.3 billion in available Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR), plus an additional $500 million in Community Development Block Grants for Mitigation (CDBG-MIT), funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
