AUSTIN— Today, Texas Land Commissioner and Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is pleased to invite members of the press to attend the East Texas Women's Veterans Day Event at the Soules College of Business at the UT Tyler campus on Saturday, June 7, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. This event will honor and celebrate all East Texas Women Veterans with a program and concert.
This year's event theme is "You Can't Spell Hero Without Her" and will include the following:
- A program with light hors d'oeuvres honoring our women Veterans
- Small concert by country music artist and Veteran Jenn Ford
- Veterans resources with some of the best-in-class organizations
- Education to help you with your VA claims, PACT Act, and more

Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., brings a lifetime of experience to the Texas General Land Office (GLO). In 2016, she became the first Republican elected to the Texas State Senate from Travis County and the first woman to represent Texas Senate District 24. She made history again in 2022, winning a statewide election to become our state’s first female Land Commissioner.
