AUSTIN— Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D., released the following statement on the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States:
"Today is a historic and pivotal day for our state and country, I look forward to working with President Donald J. Trump and his new administration of exceptional leaders to restore the United States of America and ensure Texas remains a shining star in our nation.
As Texas Land Commissioner and the steward of 13 million acres of state land full of abundant natural resources, I am encouraged that this administration aims to focus on energy independence — in turn, fostering an environment for Texas to flourish even more on the global energy stage.
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is tasked with providing disaster assistance and aid to Texans hit by disasters, and I look forward to bolstering our disaster recovery efforts under the leadership of a new Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) — with the goal of serving those we’re supposed to serve and doing it well.
As the protector of the thousands of miles of Texas coastline, our agency eagerly anticipates working with this new administration to ensure Texas receives the adequate federal funding to safeguard our coast with a secure barrier — shielding the energy capitol of the world from natural disasters.
As Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman, I eagerly await collaboration with our new federal leadership to ensure that Texas Veterans continue to receive all the benefits they have earned through their selfless sacrifices.
On this historic Inauguration Day, my office stands ready to work side-by-side with President Trump and his administration to improve the lives of hard-working Texans and their families and positively impact our great state's future."
