Derry Waterfront Park Living Shoreline

Summary

The City of Port Isabel will create a waterfront park along the Laguna Madre Bay that will promote public access and ecotourism. A  Living Shoreline that will include placement of a small near-shore low crested breakwater and construction of a planting area for low marsh vegetation.  The objectives of the park design will be to promote ecotourism, provide walk-up handicapped-accessible, access to the Laguna Madre coastal habitats, and provide public education about the benefits of Living Shorelines. An added project benefit will be the stabilization of the existing shoreline through low impact methods (rather than bulkheads). Located in a residential area within the City of Port Isabel, the project will be constructed along approximately 2,000 feet of the Laguna Madre shoreline.
