Summary
The purpose of this project is to protect coastal natural resources with the acquisition of an agricultural conservation easement on 3,037 acres of Willow Glen Plantation in Brazoria County, Texas. Conservation of large ranches in the area, such as Willow Glen Plantation will protect valuable open space, native habitat characteristic of the region, and reduce land fragmentation and land conversion in the area as populations continue to grow. The Property contains habitats essential to maintaining various native and natural communities of plant and animal species representative of the Gulf Coast Prairies and Marshes ecoregion of Texas. These habitats support the biological diversity of the many plant and animal species that are dependent on existing nesting habitat and food resources found on the Property. Wildlife species that will benefit from the protection of habitats found on Willow Glen Plantation include, but are not limited to, a variety of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, arthropods, and insects. Of particular note, this Property provides stopover habitat for migrating Neotropical birds utilizing the Central Flyway. Additionally, water features occurring on the Property contribute to proper hydrologic function in the immediate and larger ecological areas of Brazoria County including, but not limited to, the Brazos River, riparian corridors, and wetlands found on the Property. The property also provides largely undeveloped scenic views for the community along Highway 35 and the Brazos River.
