5,000+ volunteers pick up 40+ tons of trash from 55 miles of Texas beaches

AUSTIN - The results for Saturday's 31st annual Fall Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup by the Texas General Land Office are in. Despite fewer cleanup sites than usual due to damage from Hurricane Harvey, 5,046 volunteers showed up at 13 locations to remove 80,528 pounds of trash from 55 miles of Texas coastline. "Over the past month we've seen Texans come together in the wake of Hurricane Harvey," said Commissioner George P. Texas GLO signs agreement negotiated for disaster assistance with FEMA

Today the Texas General Land Office (GLO) announced the signing of a finalized agreement with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) outlining the programs and funding mechanisms for the immediate disaster assistance housing needs for the state's initial Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts. The GLO, in partnership with the Councils of Government (COGs), will work with local officials from affected regions to determine which program options will best address the needs of individual communities. Texas GLO and Coast Guard to begin removing vessels displaced by Hurricane Harvey from coastal waterways

Today, Commissioner George P. Bush announced the Texas General Land Office (GLO), in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard, will begin removing up to 300 displaced and sunken vessels damaged in coastal waters as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Volunteers needed at 12 sites for Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup

Update: We have just learned that Brazoria County cleanups at Surfside Beach and Quintana Beach must cancel due to large debris that has washed down the Brazos River from Hurricane Harvey. Vessel Turn-In Program to make waves in Calhoun County

AUSTIN - The Texas General Land Office (GLO) is partnering with Calhoun County officials and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) to offer local coastal Texans the opportunity to remove inoperable and derelict vessels through the Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP), free of charge. Designed to provide owners with a voluntary method of disposal, interested boat owners are encouraged to participate if the vessel is less than 26 feet long, with longer boats being accepted on a case by case basis. The vessel must be delivered to the Calhoun County Recycling Center between Aug.
