2018 South Texas Floods
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued an initial allocation of $46,400,000 in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding for Cameron, Hidalgo and Jim Wells Counties in response to significant flooding in 2018. On December 3, 2019, HUD announced an additional allocation of $26,513,000 bringing the total allocation to $72,913,000.
The state action plan includes the following:
- $72.913 million allocation
- At least 80 percent of the allocation must address unmet needs in the HUD-designated Most Impacted and Distressed (HUD MID) county.
- At least 70 percent of CDBG-DR funds must benefit low- and moderate-income (LMI) persons.
- Three CDBG-DR Eligible Counties:
- HUD MID: Hidalgo
- State MID: Cameron, Jim Wells
- The total allocation must be expended in six years.
